Piano Keyboard and Choral Classes at Walton High School are comprised of music theory, sight-reading, and performance.
CHORAL CLASSES:
These year-long classes, designed for students with zero, one, two, or more years of experience in a choral performing group, promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music through performance of accessible, high-quality choral music. Rehearsals focus on the development of critical listening/aural skills; foundational vocal/choral technique and skills, music literacy, ensemble skills, and aesthetic musical awareness culminating in regular public performances. Group performance assessments will be in the form of public performances in the WHS Auditorium outside the school day.
PIANO KEYBOARD CLASSES:
Students build piano techniques and skills through reading music, acquiring and applying knowledge of music theory, and exploring the role of keyboard music in history and culture. Students learn repertoire from various styles and time periods, exploring the historical influence keyboards have had on music performance and composition. Public performances may serve as a culmination of specific instructional goals. Students may be required to attend and/or participate in rehearsals and performances outside the school day to support, extend, and assess learning in the classroom.

About the director
Michelle Tredway earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of West Florida, and a Master of Music in Music Education from Florida State University. Now in her 30th year of public school teaching, Mrs. Tredway has been a collaborative pianist for the Imperial Symphony Orchestra, the Okaloosa Chamber Singers, many years of Okaloosa All County Choirs, and six All State Choirs. Kodaly trained and Orff Certified, Mrs. Tredway has taught elementary music, AP Music Theory, middle school Chorus, and currently, high school Chorus. Coming from 12 years as an Okaloosa County Middle School Choral Director, Mrs. Tredway's choirs have consistently earned the highest rating of 'Superior' from all adjudicators at District Music Performance Assessments. Additionally, while under her direction, the Ruckel Choirs have earned 'Choir of Distinction' status all 4 years that that delineation has been in existence. Mrs. Tredway loves all things 'All State' and can boast sending between 21-29 All State Students to the annual FMEA Clinic/Conference each year she was at Ruckel Middle School. Her love of Choral Music is what brings her to the limitless and relentless Walton High School! Mrs. Tredway is grateful to be able to work at Walton High School in order to build a Chorus Culture in a spacious, beautifully-furnished facility.
